The Raiders "bend but don't break" defense will be put to the test against the GOAT. Oakland struggled against the big play last season and they will need to take away the deep ball in order to prevail in this game. Cooper makes a return to SEC country where he dominated as a standout wide receiver for Alabama. A big performance from Cooper would mean victory for the Raiders, who will need someone to step-up in order to put this game in the win column. The Chiefs were able to shut down Carr last season en route to a season sweep of Raider Nation. Carr needs to be at the top of his game for this one because the stakes are high.
The Raiders' new defensive assistant, John Pagano, should have insight on his former group in terms of individual strengths and weaknesses. The ground attack may struggle against a defense that ranked No. 10 in rushing yards allowed last year. Nonetheless, Oakland wins at home by a double-digit margin. The Baltimore Ravens' passing attack took a hit once wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. decided to retire.

The Raiders traveled to take on Washington on Sunday Night Football. Beginning a rough night for Derek Carr, on the second play of the game, Carr threw his first interception on the season. Washington took advantage of the turnover, driving 67 yards on eight plays as Kirk Cousins hit Chris Thompson on a 22-yard pass to give Washington the lead 7–0. Washington again took advantage, driving 72 yards and scoring their second touchdown on a Vernon Davis 18-yard touchdown catch. The Raider offense was completely shut down in the first half, managing only 47 yards from scrimmage.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders attempted to tie the game on their next possession, but Giorgio Tevecchio's 53-yard field goal was blocked. Prior to the field goal attempt, Marshawn Lynch was ejected from the game for contacting an official after he ran on to the field during an altercation after a Carr rush. A Butker field goal with just over a minute remaining in the first half extended the Chief lead to 20–14. Tavecchio again missed a field goal, this time from 45 yards out, as time expired in the first half. Hoping to build on the victory over the Chiefs, the Raiders started well driving 81 yards as Jamize Olawale scored from one yard out to give Oakland a 7–0 lead. However, the Raider offense sputtered on their next two possession and were forced to punt.

Both offenses sputtered for the remainder of the first quarter, before the Giants tied the game on a one-yard run by Orleans Darkwa near the end of the quarter. The Raiders would retake the lead in the second quarter on a Giorgio Tavecchio 39-yard field goal. The Raider defense played well in the first half, limiting the Giants to only 16 yards rushing in the half. In the second half, the Raiders pulled within a touchdown following a Marshawn Lynch three-yard score.
Oakland has a more balanced offense, but New York fields a much better defense. Defensive ends Jason Pierre-Paul and Olivier Vernon will challenge the Raiders offensive line. The Miami Dolphins have the offensive line talent to create opportunities in the run and passing attacks, but Ryan Tannehill remains inconsistent in his production under center.

It is likely they will still be working out some of the bugs depending on who is under center for Denver. Khalil Mack could take advantage of a developing offensive unit. The Raiders face the defending Super Bowl Champs on Week 11 in Mexico City, and then go on a two game road trip against the Philadelphia Eagles and Chargers to finish the season.

Washington continued to dominate the Raiders in the second half, driving 75 yards on the opening possession and upping the lead to 21–0 on a Josh Doctson 52-yard touchdown catch.
As the Raiders return to national prominence, they'll be called upon to step up under the bright lights if they're going to make a playoff run again in 2017.
